Superfood Treats

I suppose sometimes we have to take a little break from decadent candy floss bubble teas and doughnuts but that doesn’t mean that your afternoon tea time treats have to be boring. No no no! Healthy superfood treats can be just as yummy and much more nourishing for you. Something quick and easy to whizz up are fruit and nut energy balls like our Coconut Bites, which can save you from the struggle of the 3 o’clock crash. Nutritious Coconut Cacao Snowballs are full of fibre, protein and heart healthy fats making them perfect for when you’re feeling tired and sluggish. As they are made of healthy wholefoods and not refined sugars and simple carbohydrates your blood sugar levels will stay balanced so you feel energised throughout the day. All the help you need to reclaim your focus!

We used organic cacao powder for a delicious chocolate flavour without the sugar content of regular cocoa powder. Guilt free chocolate superfood treats.

Ingredients:

180g medjool dates
80g almonds
80g hazelnuts
80g coconut flakes
2tbsp chia seeds
1tbsp coconut oil
1tbsp raw cacao power

How to make Coconut Cacao Snowballs:

Add everything to a food processor and whizz, whizz, whizz! The mixture should be sticky and start to form a ball, if not add a few more dates. Take a small bit of the mixture roll it between your palms into a ball. Fill a shallow bowl with dessicated coconut and roll the snowballs to coat the surface in a lovely crunch layer. Keep these snowballs in the fridge or in an airtight container in your desk for a handy boost whenever you need.

Watch our How To Make Raspberry and Peach Bubble Tea video!

Ingredients:

1 Bubble Tea Kit (with Peach Boba, Raspberry Bubble Tea Powder and TeaShed Tea)
Milk
Ice Cubes

How To Make Raspberry and Peach Bubble Tea:

1. Using the ingredients from your raspberry and peach bubble tea kit, steep 1 teabag in a measuring jug with 150ml of water which is hot but not boiling. Using water that is about 80 degrees C is best as boiling water will make green tea develop a bitter, astringent taste which we definitely don’t want! Let this brew for at least 3 minutes.

2. Add the tea into a bubble tea shaker. Spoon in a third of the raspberry bubble tea powder from the pack and stir.

3. Next measure 50ml of milk, 100ml of cold water and add to the tea mixture along with a couple of ice cubes.

4. Secure the lid of the bubble tea shaker and shake, shake shake!

5. Add a third of a tub of PopaBall peach boba bubbles into a bubble tea plastic cup, fix on the dome lid and enjoy using a colourful chunky bubble tea straw!

And that is how to make a raspberry and peach bubble tea!If you’re taken with this gorgeous peach and raspberry combination check out the PopaBall blog for more boba drinks like this Peach and Raspberry Lemon Bubbly.

Moroccan Spiced Mint Tea

Moroccan Spiced Mint Tea at Home

Moroccan Spiced Mint Tea is a recent discovery of ours on the ever lasting tea tasting adventures. Both refreshing and aromatic, moroccan mint tea is a warming brew whether served hot or iced. Classic mint tea from Morocco is very sweet and slightly syrupy due to the addition of sugar to minty black tea. We created a TeaShed version of this delicious Moroccan mint tea drink, but in an attempt to make this delicious cuppa a little healthier we’ve gone for Moroccan spiced inspiration rather than the sugar! Brewing two different TeaShed tea bags together gives you a lovely blended infusion. Try steeping 1 Proper Mint Tea bag and 1 Baby, It’s Cold Outside chai tea bag in a decorative teapot of recently boiled water for about 5 minutes. Then serve in colourful glass or Moroccan style cups for a lovely afternoon experience.

Baby, It's Cold Outside TeaProper Mint Tea

This tea is a great drink to put a new spin on afternoon tea. As we head into the sunnier months, afternoon tea in the garden becomes more and more popular and adding an aromatic Moroccan twist to your tea time will make it much easier to imagine you’re tanning in the heat of the north african sun. Promise!

If you love the taste of this Moroccan Spiced Mint Tea I have some even better news for you, as both our Proper Mint Tea and Chai Tea are fully of fabulous health benefits (hence their healthTEA status)! HealthTEA Breakfast – Porridge 4 ways

HealthTEA Breakfast – Porridge 4 Ways

4 yummy porridge recipes to inspire you to start your day right!

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”

I think it’s safe to say that the vast majority of us have heard or used this saying ourselves – ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’. The notion that breakfast is the most important meal actually comes from a 1917 edition of Good Health magazine in which Lenna F. Cooper wrote the well known quote. Regardless of underlying motives of the quote’s origins (read: the magazine was edited by the god father of flaked cereal, Dr Kellogg himself) as the first meal of the day, breakfast is very important to kickstart your morning and stock you up on energy.

Complex carbohydrates, protein and fresh fruit are often recommended to us as part of a healthy first meal and of course, the humble bowl of porridge is no stranger to the breakfast table! Oats contain a type of fibre called beta-glucan which has been shown to benefit blood cholesterol levels in studies carried out since 1963. This make porridge a fantastic start to the day and even better news is that it’s super easy to make and also to make interesting!

Basic Porridge Recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 cup porridge oats
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water

Method:

1. In a saucepan, add the oats, milk and water and bring to the boil.

2. Turn the heat down to a low simmer and let the porridge cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t stick.

3. Once the porridge is thick and creamy it is ready to serve.

Redbush and Vanilla Porridge

Redbush and Vanilla Tea is a lovely infusion of South African rooibos tea with delicate vanilla and aromatic petals. This means it has an all round sweet and caramel like flavour without the sugar! To infuse your porridge with Redbush and Vanilla tea simply add 1 or 2 tea bags into the pan whilst your porridge is cooking to infuse the flavours. Once cooked, squeeeeeze the tea bags against the side of the pan to make sure you get lots of flavour then serve with sour dried cherries and curls of dark chocolate for a decadent breakfast.

Chai Infused Porridge

We have been very much in love with the chai-spiced craze as it means we have lots and lots of new ideas and recipes to use our Baby, It’s Cold Outside chai tea in. Chai is a mix of spices such as cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove and cardamom and this blend gives it a deliciously warm flavour and aroma – perfect for a healthy breakfast on chilly mornings. To infused chai tea into porridge I like to add a chai tea bag to some almond milk and heat it up to a simmer so that the flavours can merge. Then use this milk to make up your oats as normal. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top for extra yumminess and ta dah!

Berry-licious Porridge

Breakfast is an ideal time to kick off your 5 a day and to get some nutrients into your system. I love using fresh berries in porridge, whether they are stewed into the oats as they cook or simply sliced fresh on top with a dollop of natural yogurt. However, this Berry-licious Porridge is made 10x better if you sprinkle over a spoonful of Strawberry Bursting Bubbles for bursts of fruity juice with every mouthful!

Peach & Rosemary Porridge

Peach and rosemary are a lovely pair of flavours that are just as great in drinks as they are in food. If you cook some chopped fresh peaches into your milk and oats they will become lovely and soft, almost pureed as the porridge simmers. Adding a sprig of rosemary to the pan brings out the sweet, peachy elements and just makes your healthy breakfast just that little bit more special. Go that extra mile and top with more fresh peaches and PopaBall peach boba!
